The intake valve opens in the cylinder head and ensures that the mixture of air and diesel can flow into the cylinder. This allows combustion to take place. The exhaust valve ensures that the exhaust gases can leave the engine via the exhaust manifold during the outgoing stroke of the piston. In some cases, there is also a turbo behind the manifold.
